Yield10 Bioscience Announces Collaboration with Rothamsted Research to Develop Advanced Technologies to Produce Omega-3 Nutritional Oils in Camelina

WOBURN, Mass. And HARPENDEN, UK, Nov 12, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – Yield10 Bioscience, Inc. (Nasdaq: YTEN), an agricultural life science company, announced today that it has signed a collaboration agreement with Rothamsted Research of the UK to support Rothamsted’s flagship program for the development of omega-3 oils in Camelina sativa. The technology developed by Rothamsted could enable the sustainable production of plant-based omega-3 nutrient oils (DHA + EPA), which precisely mimic the composition of the fish oil of the southern hemisphere, an important component of aquaculture feed. Omega-3 oils are also essential for human nutrition and have shown benefits for heart health.

Rothamsted Research is a leading global non-profit research center based in Harpenden, United Kingdom, focusing on strategic agricultural sciences for the benefit of farmers and society worldwide. For the past decade, the team, led by Professor Johnathan Napier, Ph.D., Scientific Director, has demonstrated the manufacture of DHA + EPA oils in Camelina seeds. In addition, Prof. Napier’s team has carried out several years of field trials and several feeding studies with the DHA + EPA camelina oil in various fish species, including salmon. Under the agreement, Yield10 will support Prof. Napier’s ongoing research, including further improvements to DHA + EPA traits, field tests and nutritional studies. Under the agreement, Yield10 has an exclusive two-year option to sign a global, exclusive or non-exclusive license agreement for the Omega-3 technology.
